The new Hands Corporation Headquarters – designed by The System Lab – is a relatively small-scale office building that not only brings a fluid expression to the streetscape but also provides its users with a more stimulating workspace.
‘The client basically wanted an architectural expression which is common but refreshing. He also expected us to offer a unique and architectural construction method after experiencing our earlier projects,’ the architects from The Systems Lab say. This wish resulted in an undulating façade – a relatively simple manipulation of the constructive grid. The waves mirror each other, simplifying the engineering required for the steel split-mould. ‘The design code for Korean cities is targeted at individual development rather than mandating a shared façade appearance and creating new context for the city,’ the architects add.
