Isabel Marant will create her first looks for women, men, teenagers and accessories as part of her new role as guest designer for Swedish fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz.
The collection is to debut on Nov. 14 in more than 250 H&M locations. Prices have yet to be finalized, but the H&M spokeswoman said they would be in line with previous designer tie-ups.
“I am flattered by this collaboration: H&M works with the best designers and this invitation is an exciting honour,” Marant said this morning. “I aim to create something real, that women want to wear in their everyday lives, with a certain carelessness, which I think is very Parisian: you dress up, but do not pay too much attention and still look sexy. The collection is infused with this kind of easiness and attitude. Everything can be mixed following one’s own instincts: my take on fashion is all about personality.” said Marant.
“We are excited to have Isabel Marant as a guest designer at H&M,” said H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch. “The way she mixes different elements in her collections, creating a style that is effortless and urban, makes her very contemporary. She has a fantastic eye for ethnic detail and the rare ability to create something that people really want to wear. We are sure the H&M customers will be enthusiastic about this collection.”
Born in 1967, Isabel studied at Studio Berçot from 1985 to 1987. Two years later she created her first costume jewelry and accessories line.In 1990, she launched “Twen,” a line of jersey and knitwear, which will become Isabel Marant four years later. In the Spring/summer 1995, she presented her first fashion show. In 2000, wanting to develop her brand further, she started Etoile : a more casual and affordable line.
“My brand has grown slowly and organically. I took the decision to build it step by step, in order to maintain full freedom and honesty in my work.”
