Google Glass and a Futuristic Vision of Fashion

Beyond the blue horizon lies a futuristic vision of fashion—a beautiful minimalism tailored for the brave and the bold. This is how Vogue describes their latest photoshoot for the fall season.

With the temperatures hitting 112 degrees over two days outside Lubbock, Texas, shooting fall’s jewel-tone coats and dresses for “The Final Frontier” proved to be more about beating the heat than glimpsing the future. While makeup artist Val Garland focused on deep burgundy lips and minimalist eyes, Fashion Director Tonne Goodman and photographer Steven Klein worked the angles to capture models Raquel Zimmermann, Toni Garrn, and Niklas Garrn against the backdrop of Robert Brunos 110-ton Steel House. Begun in 1974 and completed 34 years later, the house sits on the edge of Ransom Canyon like a lost spaceship—a fittingly modernist setting to display the shoot’s most forward-looking accessory, Google Glass.

Above: Sigh LinesOutfitted in Google Glass, model Raquel Zimmermann embodies a sleek chic stripped of both embellishment and gimmick.

Heavy Metal - Spare planes of fabric are carved into organic shapes—an intersection of hypermodern and earthy, underscored by the setting: an experimental house of 110 tons of rusted steel, built by the late architect Robert Bruno near Lubbock, Texas.

Forbidding Planet - Cloaked against the autumn chill in monochrome coats or suits, the trio wanders Ransom Canyon like future humans returned to an abandoned Earth.

Tripping The Light Fantastic – Built for women who seem to be really, really going places: practical, everyday chic—no fidgety patterns or trims to muck up travel, intergalactic or otherwise.

Command and Control - Purified lines and simplified structures are a perfect fashion strategy for taking over the office (or the planet).

Bang! Pow! - When colors and cuts pack as much impact as this, the Space Age, it would seem, is not as austere as we may have feared. Tom Ford black and orange jersey dresses with comic-book beaded motifs.
