Opus- furniture for a better life

“Opus” is a new cultural-financial model for a coffee house by Israelian designer Dor Ohrenstein, that combines on the go office properties with relaxing coffee house surrounding . Inside the “Opus coffee house” he designed a furniture system that allows new sitting posture inspired by the Qi gong world and combined with the west Physiotherapy principles.

During this project the designer explored the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), particularly focusing on the users physical and mental state balance.

In the TCM there is a direct link between a person’s mental and physical balance. Users who achieve physical balance by being able to manipulate their body, will also be able to control their mind and soul.

This project offers a new sitting posture that allows users to control their balance by sitting on a ball based structure. This also allows users to simultaneously control their mental and physical states.

By sitting on the Opus Chair you’ll find yourself in a new posture that connects the traditional posture and a standing-up position. The center-mass of the user in this position is directly under the spine, forcing the user to sit upright.
